What's KT Oslin doing these days???

I just came back from the road of 80's memories. I can't even remember where I was in my many internet wanderings, but someone out there I found a blog post on KT Oslin.

KT Oslin, you know, from the 80s?

Oh my word, did that take me back.

Keep in mind, I was about, oh, maybe five, back in the 80s, and while I have tried to block out most of my childhood, I will always remember KT Oslin.

Back then my grandparents had satellite tv and it was a BIG deal. There were many a nights when I would head on over to their house to watch County Music TV.

Did I mention that my grandparents lived in our yard on the farm? Well, actually we lived in their yard on the farm. My grandparents took over the farm from my great-grandparents, and until my grandparents retired from farming and moved into town, we lived in a trailer in the yard behind their house. Yeah, I know, I began my life living in a trailer in someone else's backyard. Then my grandparents moved into town and we moved into the farmhouse.

Like I said, before my life fell apart and my grandparents moved into town, I used to truck on over to grandma's house to watch Ralph Emery and country music videos.

I'd get up on their little fold down stool, grab their bible to preach a sermon, and then I'd grab a jump rope and sing KT Oslin songs. I always wanted to be a country music star.

Remember this song?

What a classic. Remember how all her videos were like little mini-movies?

As much as I tried to rebel against all things having to do with country music in my teens and move on to New Kids on the Block and Ace of Base, there's something about that country music that sucks you back into the black hole of mullets and honkey tonk lovin.

The year I was born, this was the third most popular country song...

Can you guess? It's Rosanne Cash's Seven Year Ache.

And then there's this song by Mel McDaniel. I tried and tried to find the original music video for this song, but for the life of me I couldn't find it anywhere.
All I could find was this video.

I still remember watching the video for this song in my grandparents' living room with the people dancing around the courtroom. I will never forget that.

How funny is that?

And I still wonder KT Oslin is doing these days.

Oh man I remember KT Oslin and Rosanne Cash. Wow.
I'm going to go search for KT now. What did happen to her?
(Do you have time to join the Virtual GNO tonight? :-> )

Hi, thanks for stopping by to say hi to me. I loved your post about your home you rent. My husband always is intrigued by this and I think you post pretty much sums up how I feel about the whole idea!
I grew up in a town called Taylorsville which is in SLC.
It's funny because me and my husband have tried and tried to get out of Utah, not that I hate it but we could use the space from family, anyway we never seem to get too far. I am out of good ol' T-ville though.
You will have to stop by my blog again sometime and I will yours. I love your name "Thoughts from a desperate housewife". We all live on our own Mysteria Lane ;)

I'm almost embarrassed to say that I don't know who KT Oslin is. It's amazing to me how the thing we had as children just cling to us and we can never escape. But then I wonder if that's really a bad thing all the time.

And thanks so much for stopping by my blog yesterday on my SITS day. I had so much fun and am still wading through wonderful comments. I hope you enjoyed yourself and that you come back to visit soon!

All you non-KT Oslin fans are not alone. My hubby hadn't even heard of KT Oslin until he married me. I was totally baffled by the thought of somebody not growing up in the middle of nowhere with country music and rodeos as the only source of entertainment!LOL

Love the memories. I was a huge country music fan in the 80s. Now it seems like I just listen to the rock n roll oldies from the 70s.

I was and still am a big fan of KT. Even had my own fan club going at one time. She is on myspace - and actually checks her page there every week or so. There are two KT pages - so make sure you ask to be friends on the one that she does check in on.

I was just organizing my new home office, listening to 80s videos on YouTube and K. T. Oslin popped in my head. I am MUCH older than you.....I was raising children (of the 5-year-old variety) when she was popular in the 80s. And I love all the country music of that time. It brought back a lot of good memories for me, too....and as I wondered where K. T. Oslin is now, I came across your post through a google search. Thanks for sharing.

I was introduced to KT in 1994 when I was old enough to drive to the library. I don't know which song it was that made me check out the cassette tape but it changed my world. I thoroughly related to her when I was 16 years old. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER. I'm going to try to track her down and send her a Christmas card. She moves! I want to do a website like you...how do you start?
