Preschool is taking over my life, stalking people and the house with one eye

So I'm getting ready for another week of driving. I don't know if I mentioned it, but Kaydn Rye's preschool is in Kenmare, the town we will be moving to in about a week. So since preschool started last week, I've been driving there and back two days a week. Kenmare is a teeny-weeny town in the middle of absolutely nowhere, and by middle of nowhere I mean 50 minutes away from Minot, which is the nearest town of more than 100 people, and which is where we currently live. And for North Dakota, Minot is a like a metropolis, so we're actually moving from the big city, for North Dakota standards anyway. (If you have better things to do than read this little blog, see Our New House! for more on the move)

So anyway, with preschool already starting before our big move, I could about imagine the guilt I would feel if I made him miss his first couple weeks of preschool just because I didn't want to make the hour drive there, wait two and a half hours, and then make the hour drive back, two days a week. That's not time consuming at all, no not at all. So I figure, about 100 bucks in gas, about 20 hours of time in all, and I won't be plagued by guilt that he missed his first couple weeks of preschool.

So, like a good little mommy I will make the trip tomorrow, but I think I'm going to be logical and skip Wednesday. I mean really, will missing one day of preschool really put him in therapy for the rest of his life? I don't think so.

I did find a library in the teensy weensy town of Kenmare, so I've been going to the library and using their computer room to write to make sure I meet my deadlines. (Oh, I didn't tell you about my new writing gigs, did I? Well, I guess that is soon to come. Stay tuned.)

So, Kaydn Rye and I get to go on a little road trip a couple times a week, and I get my writing done.

And you know, I think I've actually made some friends during my days at the library. With the move to Kenmare I've been mourning the loss of nights just hanging out with friends, playing games, watching a movie together. With gas prices and the fact that our friends aren't actually raking in the millions, Kenmare may as well be China. We'll still see each other at church, when we come into town, and at our monthly game night get-togethers, but it won't be the same.

So I've been thinking about just driving the streets of Kenmare and stopping any lady I see walking down the street to ask "Will you be my friend?"

After more careful evaluation, I thought that would probably be more like stalking than friend-making, and I have therefore decided against it.

And oh, I just realized I have yet to post a picture of our new house. So here it is. Like wondering what our new house looks like is really keeping you all up at night.

The one thing I'm having a hard time moving past is that the house looks like it's missing an eye.

It looks like someone cut out it's eye and replaced it with a chimney. Hopefully I'll be able to move past the fact that I'm living in a house with only one eye. In the words of Kaydn Rye, it's a pirate house!

Your new house is awesome! So sorry I haven't had a chance to chat with you lately. I haven't gotten a chance to hang out or talk with anyone since I started my new job and we bought our new house!

Are you excited to move to Kenmare?

Hope - I don't usually see people from my "real life" on the blog! You should pop by more often. So you guys moved too? When was this? But you're still in Minot, right? I'll have to pop on over to Myspace and catch up. So is the new job pretty stressful? I guess we haven't really been in the "social circle" lately so I don't really know what's going on with everyone.
